As we approach March Madness, Kentucky basketball is almost always on my mind. I've really grown fond of this team as they have gelled and improved over the course of the season. Tournament time is easily one of my favorite times of the year so I want to commemorate with a short article about our beloved Cats. An idea that's bounced around in my head is: If each Kentucky Basketball player was a sneaker, what would they be?
Jacob Toppin - Air Jordan 3
The Air Jordan 3 is a favorite of many and one of the most iconic Jordans of all time. likewise, Toppin is a fan favorite and has been electric in his third year on the Wildcats roster.
CJ Frederick - NOCTA X Air Force 1 "Certified Lover Boy"
Drake's NOCTA AF1 is a fresh take on a classic. We haven't seen CJ on the court as much as we would like to due to Injury, but his 3 Point shooting role is a staple on teams of the Calipari era. (CJ is recently engaged hence the CLB reference)
Sahvir Wheeler - New Balance 990V3
The New Balance 990V3 is often regarded as one of NB's top models and is not only comfortable, but extremely functional as well. It can play a role in anyone's closet, much like Sahvir's role on the court.
Adou Thiero - Nike Air Max 90 "Warhawk"
The Nike Air Max 90 "Warhawk" is an extremely rare spin on the Tinker Hatfield designed classic shoe and one of my favorite designs in all of sneaker history. Adou is rare in his own sense, a long and athletic 1/2 guard that possesses a ton of raw talent (he's also one of my favorite players on this team).
Damion Collins - Air Penny 2 x Stüssy
The Air Penny 2 x Stüssy is one of Nike's best releases as of late and deserves a lot more attention in my opinion. The same could be said for Damion as he has started to contribute a lot more late in the season.
Antonio Reeves - Nike Supreme Zoom Streak
Grant Darbyshire - Converse Chuck Taylors
Walk-on's are essential, much like a good pair of Chuck Taylors.
Brennan Canada - Nike Dunk "Kentucky"
A senior hailing from Mount Sterling, Canada is living out a Kentucky kid's dream. It only makes sense that he is represented by the Kentucky Dunks.
Walker Horn - Asics Gel KAYANO-14
Another essential
Cason Wallace - Nike Air Foamposite One
One of the most iconic basketball shoes of all time. Functional and flashy just like Cason. Foams were ahead of their time and you could say the same about the crafty freshman.
Kareem Watkins - Nike Mag "Back To The Future"
I'll let this video speak for me, keep in my mind that Kareem is only 5'8.
Chris Livingston - Air Jordan IV
There's something about Chris Livingston that screams Jordan IV to me. Chris has quickly become one of the most impactful players on this Kentucky team and the Jordan IV is one of Jordan's most impactful models.
Ugonna Onyenso - Rick Owens Drkshdw
While they don't get broken out often, when they do they're sure to have an impact, Just like Ugonna.
Oscar Tshiebwe - Air Jordan 1
Iconic and timeless, words often used to describe both reigning Naismith Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe and the Nike Air Jordan 1's. I <3 Oscar
Lance Ware - Nike ACG Air Mowabb
One of the most iconic ACG models ever. The Mowabb is functional, swaggy and a fan favorite, just like Ware.
Coach Cal - Ferragamo Loafers
Not a sneaker, but an Italian legend.
