Everything You Need To Know About MSCHF's Big Red Boots

It's rare to see a fashion item cause as big a stir as MSCHF's latest drop: The Big Red Boot's. The Brooklyn based art collective is well known for their tongue in-cheek pop culture products, but few have generated as much interest as the BRB's. While not officially releasing until February 16th, the Big Red Boot's have already been spotted on celebrities all over the world. From Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to Diplo, the Big Red Boot's have already generated a ton of buzz and is easily the most polarizing release of 2023, and maybe even the decade.

MSCHF has a rich history of producing controversial items. The most divisive being their 2021 release of Modified Nike Air Max 97's titled the "Satan Shoes", which were designed with the help of Lil Nas X. These shoes sold for over $1,000 and featured satanic insignia and even a drop of human blood in their sole. These shoes sold out in a matter of minutes but caused MSCHF to face intense backlash and even a lawsuit from Nike. While not being quite as controversial as the Satan Shoes, the Big Red Boot's have already caused just as much of a stir.

The Big Red Boot's are eerily similar to those worn by popular Japanese Manga/Anime figure Astro Boy and while they appear to be intended for costume, MSCHF assures that they are indeed functional. MSCHF's rollout of the BRB has been genius as they shipped free pairs out to celebrities all around the world. The buzz created from these free pairs spotted has been a great marketing tool, even though the shoes have received both positive and negative criticism.

Personally, I'm a fan of these. Would I wear them? Maybe not, but I enjoy off the wall designs especially in footwear. I think these boots are a good reminder that not every piece of apparel needs to be taken seriously. I admire anyone who has the courage and confidence to wear something out of the norm.
