Converse & Fragment's Hiroshi Fujiwara revitalize the most popular basketball shoe of the 80's with their latest collaboration. This sneaker offers the same iconic "sports royal" colorway featured in the legendary Fragment Jordan 1's. While these shoes go for the vintage look, they also appeal to younger sneakerheads. Converse might not be super popular outside of their chuck taylor models, but I've always enjoyed their basketball sneakers and I have a pair of vintage Con's.
Some background on the Converse Weapon: "The Converse Weapon was the basketball nonplus ultra of the late '80s. Upon its release in 1986, the shoe was most famously worn by Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, though it's fair to say that pretty much every NBA star except for Jordan wore the Converse Weapon at some point in the late '80s."
Background on Hiroshi Fujiwara: "He is known as a godfather of Ura-Harajuku fashion and is a globally influential streetwear designer, including being the pioneer for Nike's "HTM" line, and the "Fenom" line for Levis. He launched his first brand, Good Enough, in the late 1980s.
Good Enough eventually gave way to a new project: Fragment Design, the brand which Fujiwara dedicates most of his time as a creative to in today's time."
I really like this shoe, not only does it match the colorway of my favorite basketball team (duh), but I think the weapon is an excellent summer shoe.
This shoe is available at converse.com on May 11th at 10AM for $140.
